Lions Free Agency - Day 2 - Part 2
Information pulled from: PFF, Pro Football Reference
The Lions have awoken even further with two additional free agent signings this afternoon into evening. The Lions acted aggressively and re-signed cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, and signed free agent quarterback (and previous Lion) Teddy Bridgewater. These two are a match made in heaven with the Lions, due to how they have played in their time here.
To be fair, Teddy Bridgewater didn’t take many snaps when he was here previously, he made his snaps count. Teddy represents a strong veteran presence that can confidently operate the offense at a high enough level to compete should Jared Goff go down. I am not saying he is as good as Jared Goff, but I am saying he is simply smart enough and good enough to operate this offense effectively. Contract details are not readily available.
Rock Ya-Sin is a versatile, quality cornerback to provide depth and relief all over the field. He can play on the outside or the inside. Last year, after being pressed into more action than expected, he played exceptionally well earning a PFF grade of 64.7 on 611 snaps. At age 29 he is not a young player anymore, but he was extremely reliable last year and I hope that will continue. He allowed a passer rating of 76.6 when targeted. That is not perfect, but for the price (1 year, up to 4 million dollars) combined with the familiarity with the Lions system, it is a quality signing.
I’m now ready to call this free agent class a slam dunk. For the amount of holes in the roster, Brad is off to a strong showing filling holes. I’m not saying it will ensure that all of these free agents work out. I simply am saying that Brad is doing all he can to approach this offseason in the right way, and I’m here for it. Now, we need the results.
