NFL Draft - BigDahm Picks - Round Five
Information sourced from: DLP Consensus Big Board, NFL Mock Draft DB, RAS, ESPN, PFSN
The Draft continues, and reviewing my picks, I am pretty pleased with the haul thus far. I don’t expect everyone will agree with me, however, we have a starting offensive tackle, a defensive end, safety 3 or 4, and center 2 with upside. I really like where we have landed. The next pick has been a late round target of mine for some time for the Lions…
With the Lions 5th Round Pick, I Select Sam Roush, Tight End Stanford.
Given that Sam Laporta is coming off of major back surgery, that Brock Wright’s health is still kind of a question mark, and Jared Goff’s dependence on the tight end position, I have been a bit worried about where the Lions would end up. The Tyler Conklin signing was a breath of fresh air for me. He is able to block and catch effectively. I would also say the same of Sam Roush. Last year he hauled in 49 passes for 515 yards and two touchdowns. That’s nothing to bat an eye at. He is able to block as well, and it’s arguably his better strength.
As a fifth round pick, and given his skillset and upside he probably will be right in the battle for the third tight end slot. If Sam LaPorta can’t start the season, his battle for that third slot becomes even easier. Add in his elite athleticism, and I think he is a very good fit for the Lions.
A lot of this draft has been focused on two things from my perspective, help the offense return to form, and generate more pass rush. If you generate more pass rush, your defensive backs will become more effective. This offense has carried this team before, so add a return to form for the offense and the Lions have a possibility to be right back in the mix for the playoffs.
I know I said I may not complete this series all the way to the seventh round but I am having way too much fun digging in. I hope you enjoyed it, and as always, Let’s go Lions!

Sam Rouch I think is underrated in this draft
